Fantasy and Fetish Ball

Yes, this is a picture of me...sadly. Way back in October of 2002, I hope my taste in clothes has improved since then. At the time I thought this dress was the bomb. Purchased on EBay specifically for a night out in Las Vegas for Halloween. Looking at it now it looks more like the Ghost of 80's prom dates past more than the Southern Belle costume I was going for. The worst part was the boots. White leather granny boots with a big stiletto heel and pointy toes. They weren't really made for walking around, at least I didn't think so. So why do I bring this up? My wedding happens to be in Las Vegas on Halloween, right about the time the Fantasy Fetish Ball is happening.

The thing I most remember about the 2002 party was spending several hours getting ready, shaving my legs and face, putting on makeup and getting dressed to be suddenly hit with the realization that I was going to have to leave my room. Alone. Dressed like a girl. I kept telling myself that it was Halloween and it was Las Vegas but it is a nerve racking experience. Eventually I decided to be a man and just do it. Ironic, no? I peeked my head out the door and saw no one in the hallway. The rooms self closing door thudded loudly behind me as I made my way down the longest hallway ever to the elevator. The doors opened and my luck held as no one was on the elevator. It started down and picked up speed, not stopping before the lobby. And then it happened, the doors opened and thee before me was a mass of humanity and the craziness of Vegas.

I thought about heading right back upstairs but I forced myself to step out and make the walk towards the reception area, I turned left and walked through a bay of slot machines and my destination was in site, the doors outside. I had made it. I stepped out and found a taxi line about 20 people deep. I hadn't thought about that. But here I was, everyone had already seen me, so I stepped into line. A sensed a few people snickering, no one else was even dressed for Halloween. The line made good progress and just as I was getting to the front a few women exited a cab and they asked me to have a picture with them. This was actually the thing that got me over the hump. Some people might laugh but if I just had fun with it then big deal. Form there on I was fine. I went to the party and had a pretty good time, except for the "Cruel Shoes". If I was to do it again, go to the Fantasy and Fetish Ball, I wouldn't do it alone. I met a few people but like any party I would have more fun with friends.

Luckily, this time around I will be with friends. My groom and possibly my bridesmaid, depending on her schedule. The bad part is its on the night before my wedding. I don't know if I want to party and then have to get up the next morning for the Big Day. I'm just saying its a possibility. This past Halloween my plans fell through when my girlfriend got sick and we couldn't have our Halloween Date. I was going to be a 50's USO girl and she was going as a my sailor boy. It seems we already have costumes, I might even end up on the arms of two sailor boys if my bridesmaid joins us.

The party itself is supposed to be one of the Top 100 things to do before you die according to the Travel Channel. I think its pretty fun depending on what you are looking for. The bands were all hard or speed metal. The people watching was fantastic. Mostly slutty costumes for the girls but there were some really great ones for the costume contest. Cruella Deville with two dalmations on leashes (the dalmations were a man and a women in shiny latex), there was an 8 foot tall Frankenstien and what appeared to be a Myan warrior with an elaborate feather costume that fanned out like a peacock if he pulled some wires.

There were also lots of vendors selling sex toys and an occasional stage where leather clad dominants paddled and whipped the bottoms of their subs. Like I said it depends on what you are looking for. I thought it was a little to commercial for my tastes.

If you are interested here is a link about the party.

Stay tuned for more wedding updates. Wedding one is only 50 days away.
