I am going to start out noting this will likely be a shorter post. There are some big things happening around the homestead and I might not have as much time to blog for the next month. We just sold our current house and bought a new place. Right now we are packing like crazy and need to get ready for the move at the end of the month.
That being said I still need to plan for some of the wedding stuff. I am making some preliminary outreach to potential vendors to discuss and interview for the wedding when I make a visit this December to run in the 1/2 marathon.
I already have one photographer lined up, and a makeup artist. And that got me to thinking about what kinds of things I need to discuss with the photographer. I've never interviewed a wedding photographer before. So I started making a list of questions I think would be important to discuss. I had a couple of questions about the groom. First of she is shorter than me by about a eight inches, that will only get worse if I am in heels. What can we do to make her taller or at least give the illusion of height. Secondly she is sort of camera shy, I think she might need some down time and not be in every shot.
I am also curious about day versus night shots. Ideally I would like to get some of each but I would like to know what the photographer prefers. Also, what kind of places to shoot if there is bad weather. What other preferences does the photographer have candid or posed shots? Color or black and white. Are there any secret places you like to shoot besides the list of places I have defined?
I decided to get the opinion of some other brides. I went out to weddingwire.com and posted a forum topic for discussion. I should point out that on weddingwire my profile explains the whole me being a boy bride thing. I was concerned that people would go off topic and slam me for intruding or being a poser. Likely no one even read my profile but everyone was very polite and answered my questions. I felt like a real bride just sharing my concerns and experiences with other brides. It was really quit cool.
As for the advice, A number of people noted that it wasn't just about the pictures. It needs to be looked at from a business perspective. They suggested a number of good questions and ideas. Such as what kind of equipment they use, and what do they use as a backup if the first camera fails. What happens if they get sick or are in an accident, do they have a backup they can send in their place.
One of the really good suggestions was to ask to see an entire shoot from a previous client. Make sure they can take a number of good photos, not just get lucky and take two good shots and put them in their portfolio. You want all of your photos to look professional.
Well, thats it for now, back to packing. The nice thing is I will be in my new home the early part of October. That way it won't conflict with the dressing weekend I have planned for Halloween weekend. I still hope to set up a video chat if anyone wants to discuss crossdressing and wedding topics with me. More on that later, probably after the move.
